A story of a young Ngäbe girl, Maritza, from the Comarca in Panama, who is adamant about protecting her baby green iguana, Yimy. She wants to take him to school with her against her mother’s wishes. She disobeys her mother, hides Yimy in her backpack, and on the way to school, she and her friends must overcome obstacles such as a snake and a dog. Maritza’s stubbornness in refusing to change her mind about Yimy returning home divides the friends, but they agree to keep Yimy's presence a secret. At school, Yimy creates problems, and in the ensuing chaos, Maritza realizes she must find a different solution to her problem
